Phone radiation guidelines issued by Department of Telecom

The Department OF Telecom has recently issued guidelines for the telecom companies regarding the level of radiations emitting from telecom towers as well as from mobile devices. the step has been taken by the government following fears about the effect radiation might have on people's health. all telecom companies should adhere to the new rules and the authority has made it clear that for non-compliance of EMF standards , a penalty of rs 5 lakhs will be levied per bts per service provider. the stringent rules are not limited to service providers but also include mobile manufacturers .who now have one year's time to come out with handsets that are compliant with the new SAR values of 1.6W/kg averaged over 1gram of human tissue-only then will they be allowed to be manufactured or imported into the country. And that is not all the amount of radiation a particular handset emits will also be made available to consumers by the manufacturer  at the time of purchase of the handset .

International visitors to have a Mobile connection for three months only

The Indian Government has asked telecom service providers not to issue a mobile connection for more than three months to international visitors. The move is being seen as a way to keep a check on the misuse of SIM cards in the country. Department of Telecom has come out with fresh guidelines for issuing new SIM cards after the North-East Indian exodus case.

No roaming charges / New Indian Telecom Policy

No roaming charges in new Indian telecom policy

Indian Telecom Ministry has Thursday  permitted a new Telecom policy that seeks to do away with roaming charges throughout the country and simplifies the licensing policy, Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal said Thursday

Affordability of the consumers is the core of our policy, Sibal told reporters after a cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh
Sibal said the new policy aims at free roaming facility throughout the country.  At present, users have to pay extra when they receive or make a call in a circle outside their home network, called roaming charges. Also mobile number portability is not permitted outside circle
The NTP 2012 aims to provide free roaming to telecom users and allow them to retain the mobile number even outside their circles without having to pay any extra charge.
The minister said the new policy seeks to provide a predictable and stable policy regime for a period of nearly 10 years.
The new policy called National Telecom Policy-2012 will replace more than a decade old legislation.
“The main thrust of the Policy is on the multiplier effect and transformational impact of such services on the overall economy,” the statement said.
The union cabinet also approved introduction of unified license and authorized the Department of Telecommunications to finalize the new unified licensing regime with the approval of minister of communications and IT.

The thrust areas of the New Telecom Policy-2012 are:
